What the EcoVadis score says about a company

In our interactions with Romanian companies, we have observed that the EcoVadis assessment comes from an external need - perhaps a request from a client or a criterion in a partnership. But along the way, the assessment becomes an internal benchmark that helps clarify direction. The EcoVadis score - expressed on a scale from 0 to 100 - reflects the level to which a company manages environmental issues, social practices, ethics and responsible sourcing. In other words, it shows how well the principles of sustainability are understood and applied in day-to-day business.

In June 2025, Fincons Group announced that it had maintained its Gold medal, with a significant increase in score: from 74 to 79. It has thus climbed into the top 3% globally and top 1% in IT. It was the result of an effort to improve the way the company organises its processes, documentation and relationships with partners (https://www.finconsgroup.com/newsroom/news-detail/ecovadis-gold-rating-2025).

Canon was also awarded the Platinum Medal, an honour given to the best 1% among the companies evaluated. It is a result that confirms years of investment in consistent and measurable sustainability policies, not just at a declarative level, but across the entire business structure (https://global.canon/en/news/2025/20250513.html)

But EcoVadis is not just for big companies. Relevant examples also come from less visible industries or specialised market segments. Dr Paul Lohmann, producer of mineral salts, was awarded the Silver Medal in 2025 and included in the top 8% in the industry. For a company in the chemicals sector, where regulations are strict and ESG risks are real, such a score is evidence of a structured and transparent approach.

In the area of life sciences logistics, Biocair received a score of 69 out of 100 in March 2025 - an "Advanced" rating, associated with the Silver medal. The company ranked in the top 13% overall. Even in an area where operational speed and the complexity of supply chains may leave less room for formalisation, the sustainable approach was possible and recognised (https://www.biocair.com/news/biocair-achieves-silver-ecovadis-rating-2025).

All of these companies, regardless of size or industry, have one thing in common: they treat the EcoVadis score as a guiding indicator. The rating structure helps them understand where they are and what they can improve. High scores are built through consistency and engagement.

For a start-up company, it may seem that evaluation is difficult or that the results come hard. EcoVadis is not an exam or an award. It's a snapshot of where you are and how you can move forward in the right direction.
