The report combines consolidated data for 2024 with preliminary estimates for 2025.

The main ideas of the report

The average surface temperature between January and August 2025 was ~1.42 °C ± 0.12 °C above pre-industrial levels. Atmospheric concentrations of CO₂, CH₄ and N₂O reached record levels in 2024 and continue to rise in 2025. The long-term rate of global mean sea level rise has increased since satellite monitoring began in 1993. The recent 11 years (2015–2025) are shaping up to be the warmest on record.

Physical climate risks can affect operations, supply chains, infrastructure and insurance costs (extreme events, sea level rise, intense weather events). Recent data indicate that the goal of limiting global warming to 1.5 °C is becoming increasingly difficult to achieve, which has two effects: additional pressure for emission reduction measures and opportunities for adaptation services, technologies and infrastructure.

Recommendations for companies

Companies should re-evaluate their strategic scenarios regarding resilience planning or decarbonisation planning. This involves investments in adapted infrastructure, nature-based solutions, water management, and energy efficiency. The report increases the relevance of data, monitoring, and transparency. Investors, regulators, and business partners will make decisions based on solid information about climate performance and associated risks. For companies with exposure to coastal, island, or flood-prone areas or extreme weather events, the report serves as a signal that vulnerability must be explicitly assessed and integrated into business strategy.

A company that integrates sustainability into its development strategy should review and update its internal climate risk analysis, including scenarios for warming, increased severity of weather events, and impact on infrastructure and supply chains.

Data should be updated and integrated (e.g., +1.42 °C compared to pre-industrial levels) into economic and investment models to reflect the increased realities of climate change. Adaptation plans should be reassessed. If the company has assets in exposed areas, it is time to take into account the increased frequency and intensity of extreme events. At the same time, companies should also consider strengthening their climate reporting and verification systems so that they can demonstrate credibility to investors and authorities.

World Meteorological Organization a publicat un raport actualizat în contextul COP30, intitulat State of the Climate – Update for COP30, care aduce date privind tendinţele climatice globale: încălzirea, concentraţiile de gaze cu efect de seră, nivelul mării şi alte indicatori-cheie.
