The report provides a framework that can help states organise their actions and harmonise their policies. Many countries already have isolated projects, but these are developing in a fragmented way. The document proposes a structure in which public institutions, local communities, financiers and companies can work together.

The directions proposed by the report

The report analyses the elements that influence the success of nature-based projects: administrative capacity, legislation, financing mechanisms and monitoring systems. The authors emphasise how institutions can identify bottlenecks in existing processes and how long-term programmes can be developed. The quality of interventions is an important issue. NbS projects produce good results when they are based on clear ecological data and are designed for the context in which they are to be implemented. The report draws attention to the need for monitoring mechanisms that allow for a real assessment of impact over time.

Another chapter highlights the role of coordination platforms at national level. These structures help align efforts between institutions and create a common basis for private sector participation and access to funding.

Funding and governance

The document shows that NbS projects have high potential to generate long-term economic and social benefits. However, many initiatives face difficulties in attracting capital. The causes are diverse: lack of data, administrative inconsistencies or the absence of clear implementation strategies. The report analyses the role of public funding, international funds and private investment. For these projects to become attractive, predictability, clear rules and stable governance are needed.

Risks identified in the report

Several types of risks are highlighted: tensions related to land use, difficulties in measuring impact, the absence of uniform standards and a lack of real coordination between policies. These risks can affect the credibility of NbS projects and make it more difficult to access funding.

Relevance to the business environment

The report can be useful for companies in several ways. The private sector is considered a key player in mobilising capital for NbS. Companies in Europe are already influenced by regulations such as the EU Taxonomy, CSRD or due diligence directives, which require the integration of biodiversity and climate risks into strategies. The framework presented by the IUCN helps organisations understand how they can develop robust projects with clear implementation and monitoring criteria.

The analysis is in line with developments in European ESG reporting standards. The focus on data, verification and transparency is relevant for companies preparing their reports or investing in climate transition programmes and restoration projects. Many European supply chains include regions where nature-based solutions can play an important role in reducing risks. The report provides a framework to help companies assess their responsibilities in the areas where they source their raw materials and identify new opportunities for collaboration or investment.

[9

post-8784","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-noutati
["GET
