A recent study conducted by KPMG shows that 75% of European companies surveyed acknowledge that sustainability has a direct impact on financial performance \u2014 either through resource savings, better access to markets or increased revenues from green segments. The Sustainability Value Creation analysis, conducted on a sample of 354 companies from eight European countries and nine sectors of activity, highlights a paradigm shift: sustainability is no longer perceived exclusively as a cost or a compliance obligation, but as an opportunity for growth.<\/p>\n
The study indicates that 36 % of companies are already investing over 10 % of the total budget<\/strong> in environmental and sustainability measures. KPMG estimates show that this proportion could rise to 59% over the next three years. On the other hand, only 46 % say they regularly assess the financial benefits of these measures. Data quality deficiencies, lack of standardised methodologies and the multidimensional complexity of measurement are identified as the main obstacles.<\/p>\n For companies in Romania, these results may represent a message regarding sustainability. Companies that consider the topic a marginal issue or are strictly reactive may face the risk of falling behind. Companies need to shift their strategy from compliance to value creation and develop measurement capabilities: internal reports, clear indicators, investment plans aligned with green objectives. For example, a company that upgrades its equipment to reduce consumption can calculate its energy savings, convert them into financial indicators (avoidable cost, ROI) and communicate this data concretely to investors or partners.
