What is the Gold Standard?<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Sustainability is a concrete benchmark in business decisions. Customers, investors and European authorities are closely watching how organisations manage their environmental impact. In addition to energy efficiency and energy transition measures, some companies are also looking at carbon offsetting, but for this process to be credible and relevant, it is essential that offset projects meet an internationally recognised standard based on transparency, verification and proven impact. One of the most important of these standards is the Gold Standard for the Global Goals, launched in 2003 by the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) and a coalition of international NGOs. The standard was developed to ensure that carbon offset projects not only reduce emissions, but also bring real benefits to communities and support the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). How does this standard work?<\/strong><\/h2>\n

The Gold Standard validates projects that reduce or avoid greenhouse gas emissions. These can include activities such as reforestation, renewable energy production, waste management or energy efficiency in households or industry.<\/p>\n

Each project is assessed by independent third parties and emission reductions are monitored and verified over time. For every tonne of CO\u2082 equivalent that does not reach the atmosphere, the project generates one carbon credit, which can be purchased by companies to offset their own emissions.<\/p>\n

What's important to remember is that the Gold Standard goes beyond simply reducing emissions: each project must demonstrate clear and measurable contributions to at least one sustainable development goal - such as health, education, jobs or access to energy.<\/p>\n
