In the context of sustainability requirements, companies have access to various assessments that certify their social and environmental responsibility commitments. Two of the best known are EcoVadis<\/strong> and B Corp<\/strong>, both provide a snapshot of a company's sustainability performance, but from different perspectives and for different purposes.<\/p>\n

EcoVadis: Evaluation for supply chains<\/h2>\n

EcoVadis is a widely used assessment system in supply chains to evaluate the sustainability performance of suppliers. This assessment is globally recognised and focuses on four main pillars:<\/p>\n

Medium:<\/strong> measures to minimise environmental impact<\/p>\n

Labour and human rights:<\/strong> working conditions and respect for human rights<\/p>\n

Ethics:<\/strong> business integrity<\/p>\n

Sustainable procurement:<\/strong> the impact of suppliers on sustainability.<\/p>\n

The EcoVadis assessment is based on a customised questionnaire and supporting documents, after which the company receives a score for each pillar, along with an overall rating. The EcoVadis assessment is preferred by companies operating in global supply chains that need a standardised method to assess the sustainability of their suppliers.<\/p>\n

B Corp: A holistic approach to social responsibility<\/h2>\n

B Corp is a broader assessment that looks not only at environmental performance, but also at social impact, corporate governance and economic responsibility. The B Corp assessment process measures a company's performance in five areas:<\/p>\n

Governance:<\/strong> transparent and accountable practices.<\/p>\n

Labour:<\/strong> employee rights and working conditions.<\/p>\n

Community:<\/strong> impact on local communities.<\/p>\n

Medium:<\/strong> policies and actions to protect the environment.<\/p>\n

Customers:<\/strong> ethical practices towards consumers...<\/p>\n

To obtain a good rating, a company must achieve a minimum score of 80 out of 200 points and be re-evaluated every three years. B Corp is aimed at companies focused on social missions that seek to improve their impact on the community and the environment in general.<\/p>\n

Main differences between EcoVadis and B Corp:<\/h2>\n

Main objective:<\/strong> EcoVadis is geared towards B2B relationships and is used in supply chain assessments. B Corp is an assessment for companies that want to demonstrate their commitment to social and environmental responsibility to the general public.<\/p>\n

Evaluation scope:<\/strong> Although both assess sustainability, B Corp also includes corporate governance and customer impact, which is not the focus of EcoVadis.<\/p>\n

Evaluation methodology:<\/strong> EcoVadis uses a customised questionnaire and scores on specific pillars, while B Corp evaluates the company holistically, covering multiple factors, with a minimum score threshold for rating.<\/p>\n

Although EcoVadis<\/a> and B Corp<\/a> have similar aims in promoting sustainability, they respond to the different needs of companies. EcoVadis is suitable for companies in complex supply chains, while B Corp is more suitable for social mission-orientated companies that want to differentiate themselves through their commitments to society and the environment.
