As ESG becomes an essential criterion in business strategy, large corporations must navigate complex supply chains, diverse geographies and varying levels of supplier maturity. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Here are some of the main challenges:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>The complexity of global supply chains: <\/strong>Large companies typically operate large, multi-level supply chains that span multiple countries. Each supplier may operate under different regulatory frameworks, cultures and ESG standards.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Lack of supplier training: <\/strong>Many providers, especially smaller ones, may not have the resources or expertise to implement advanced ESG measures. This creates a gap between what large corporations demand and what suppliers can deliver.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Data collection and reporting: <\/strong>ESG performance requires extensive data collection from suppliers on environmental impact, labour practices, diversity, governance. However, obtaining accurate, timely and consistent data from a wide range of suppliers can be extremely difficult.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Compliance and regulatory risk: <\/strong>Governments and regulators are introducing more and more ESG-related regulations, but these differ from country to country. This means large companies have to navigate through a patchwork of compliance requirements, which is particularly difficult with global suppliers.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Supplier resistance or opposition:<\/strong> Some suppliers may resist implementing ESG standards because of financial implications or conflicting business priorities. This can lead to difficult negotiations, delays or even the loss of valuable suppliers.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Reputational risk:<\/strong> If a large company is found to have suppliers with poor ESG practices, it can suffer significant reputational damage. Companies must balance the need to maintain supplier relationships with the need to comply with ESG standards.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Lack of industry collaboration<\/strong>: Many large companies still tackle ESG challenges individually rather than collaboratively across industries.
