The stated policy objective is to increase the share of electrification to 35% of final energy demand by 2035.

Electrification in industry, buildings and transport

According to the European Commission, Electrify Now will focus on the electrification of key sectors, the modernisation of grids and the expansion of storage capacity, as well as the development of resilient supply chains for clean energy production.

Electrification is regarded as a key component of competitiveness, energy security and reducing exposure to the volatility of fossil fuels. Energy-intensive industries, transport, the buildings sector, electrical equipment manufacturers, network operators and companies involved in energy storage or renewable energy are at the heart of this public policy direction.

Reducing methane emissions, treated as a climate and energy priority

The second key message conveyed at London Climate Action Week concerns the reduction of methane emissions. The European Union and Canada, co-organisers of the Global Methane Pledge, have welcomed the UN Secretary-General’s new call for action to reduce methane emissions.

Methane is the second most significant contributor to climate change after carbon dioxide, and reducing its emissions is considered one of the quickest and most effective ways of limiting global warming. Beyond its impact on the climate, reducing methane emissions can bring benefits for air quality, public health and economic development.

The European Commission pointed out that the Global Methane Pledge, launched at COP26, aims to reduce global methane emissions by at least 30% by 2030, compared with 2020 levels.

Gas leaks are also becoming an economic problem

Particular emphasis was placed on the energy sector, where losses due to flaring, venting and gas leaks remain significant. The Commission cites data from the International Energy Agency, according to which, in 2024, over 350 billion cubic metres of gas were lost globally due to flaring, venting and leaks.

In this context, reducing methane emissions is an energy efficiency measure. Minimising leaks and eliminating routine venting and flaring practices can increase gas availability, reduce price volatility and contribute to the resilience of energy systems.

As far as companies are concerned, electrification, energy efficiency, the reduction of methane emissions and investment in clean infrastructure are expected to become increasingly important in their transition strategies and in their dialogue with financiers.

London Climate Action Week 2026 confirms that the energy transition is entering a phase that focuses less on general objectives and more on infrastructure, capital, energy security and industrial implementation.
